How many more years do they need to get over that “surprise”? Trimble still uses OpenGL, which is unsupported and not updated since 2017. I don’t think Apple should pressure Trimble, that’s not Apple’s role, since they offer all the technologies and SDK for companies to adapt their software.įor example, Metal for macOS was announced in June 2015 and released a few months later with “El Capitán”. They announce and develop the tools to adopt the new technologies months and years in advance. I disagree with all the other post saying that Apple “surprise” developers with upgrades and changes to the operating system. All the other software I need has been optimized for the new chips and they simply fly. I haven’t returned my computer because it is the best piece of hardware I have ever used. Hi GMZ418, I completely agree with your post. What is happening now makes me want to switch to vectorworks or archicad and I might never come back to sketchup If I feel better supported as a professional… It would really be appreciated if Trimble would only confirm that they are currently working on it with a release date so people like me (or I think at least 50% of architects in the world) could start organizing and planning their work tools… It is hard to even understand how Apple don’t put pressure or help out Trimble to develop a native ARM version since I am sure it would outperform any PC in the market! In my case I would buy one apple computer for all my employees, but due to the lack of compatibility I have to stick to windows. So very sadly I had to return the computer also since I mostly use sketchup in my work. This summer I bought a M1 MacBook Air and my sketchup models were mostly unusable due to the lag and the low antialiasing edges that reminded me of my intel celeron back in 2004… I thought it was due to rosetta 1 and the 8gb of ram so I returned the computer.īut when yesterday I opened the very same sketchup model on the MacBook Pro M1 Max with 32gb of ram, the issues were exactly the same: model unusable. I had high expectations on the MacBook Pro M1 Max that I bought and return directly after trying sketchup pro 2021.
